"Retrofitting Exterior Wall Assemblies With Rain Screen Systems"
Many commercial and institutional buildings constructed in the 20th Century feature wall assemblies with underperforming or nonexistent air barriers, drainage planes and insulation planes. Advances in building science and rain screen technologies offer the possibility of improving the performance of these walls while simultaneously modernizing the appearance of their retrofitted facades. This presentation will explore the retrofit process, utilizing the LoGrasso Hall project at the State University of New York College at Fredonia as a case study. This presentation will provide meaningful information for design professionals and building owners to understand the potential advantages of utilizing rain screen systems when retrofitting exterior wall assemblies and how to evaluate the suitability of a given wall assembly to undergo a retrofit with a rain screen. This presentation will also explore design considerations for the underlying wall structure, air barrier, drainage plane and insulation plane. Finally, the presentation will review potential challenges and limitations associated with designing, specifying and constructing rain screen systems. The need for North American rain screen design and performance standards will be discussed.

Presentation Classroom #2
Pella Windows & Doors of Buffalo
"Window Codes & Standards"
Windows and doors are an integral part of making great buildings. They help to define the architecture of the building elevation while providing protection from the elements, letting in light, and maintaining a connection to the outside world. They are also a key component in building safety and usability. We will look at accessibility guidelines, egress, and other code related issues in this overview of the different codes and standards you need to be aware of when making window and door design decisions.

"Curtainwall 101"
Curtain Walls provide some of the most dramatic design details of a building. This course explains strengths and weaknesses of various types of curtain walls. Attendees will explore design pressure calculation, installation and glazing processes. A recent trend toward more fabrication and assemble in controlled environments will be analyzed. Latest energy codes will also be reviewed.
12:10-1:10: Lunch, Raffles and Vendor demonstrations.

Presentation in Training Area
AMS + Finishing Trades Institute
"Storefront Installation Processes & Controls To Prevent Construction Defects"
Learn to bridge the gap between design and installation with our comprehensive, hands on storefront installation training. The course is designed specifically for architects and will provide a deep dive into the practical processes and challenges of installing modern storefront systems. Participants will get experience viewing mock up assembly allowing them to better understand how components fit together and the critical role of proper flashing and sealing to prevent air and water infiltration. By learning about common installation pitfalls, material limitations, and the impact of different systems on building performance, you will gain valuable insights that will inform your future designs, improve your collaboration with installers, and ultimately help you create more durable and functional building facades.

"High Performance Glazing Systems"
This course will review glazed wall systems with a focus on stick-built curtain wall. Attendees will better understand glazing performance related to air and water infiltration, mitigation, & code compliance. A specific focus will be on environmental factors, structural load capacities, and total system design to create efficient structures that benefit the occupant's health and well being as well as improve facility performance.
Presentation #2

"Distinguishing Between Storefront, Curtain Wall and Window Wall Applications"
As construction methods and delivery requirements have changed to evolve and meet new demands, manufacturers now offer a wide array of framing options. Architectural aluminum framing systems can be broken down into several subcategories, including storefront framing, curtain wall, window wall, windows, entrances and more. While each shares some common characteristics, they are also quite different and designed for specific applications. This presentation focuses on these systems—storefront, curtain wall and window wall—and the unique features and characteristics of each, along with their advantages and disadvantages and examples of applications each is designed for. You will better understand the uniqueness of each system and how to select the correct one based on a specific project’s needs.
